With hot chicks and adorable puppies in abundance, we’re just surprised this didn’t happen sooner.
Today, MTV announced plans to shoot an episode of True Life at Occupy Wall Street in Zuccotti Park. The announcement coincided with this week’s discovery of an MTV casting call on Craigslist.
According to MTV, “The special episode will take you to the front lines as MTV cameras follow three young people who get swept up in the political movement that has quickly grown into a global phenomenon.”
The network must have worked quickly since the episode is set to air on November 5.
Will this bring Occupy Wall Street the heightened awareness it craves, or will it turn a grassroots movement into the next ‘Jersey Shore?’ Reactions on Twitter focused on MTV’s inevitable impact on the movement.
“It seems the powers that be finally found the way to kill Occupy Wall Street. #Sigh,” tweeted @nwhusted.
“This sounds super exploitative,” added @rocket_nova.
Others remarked on the irony of the situation. After all, the CEO of MTV’s parent company, Viacom, was the highest paid of all in 2010, well within what the protestors refer to as “the 1%.”
“I can already envision the branded merchandise,” quipped @mintymin.
“Leave it to Viacom to make money on Occupy Wall Street,” wrote @AroundNetworks.
The Jersey Shore comparison was inevitable.
“Hopefully this will include a cast member who refers to his own abs as ‘The Occupation,’” wrote @jsmooth995.
But whether the episode helps or hurts the movement, @cox_eric sums up the inevitable:
“This has the potential to be really funny.”
