In a cover both completely inevitable and somehow wholly unexpected, someone has finally given Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls” the performance it deserved: with elementary school bells.
YouTube musician and noted Metallica fan Rob Scallon, who has routinely posted “Maytallica” videos during the month, has found countless new ways to cover the legendary band. However, this cover is his most unique, and unusually obvious, by far: an arrangement of bells, bowls, xylophones, and other percussive noisemakers.
Not long ago, the band had a little fun with a “classroom instruments” cover of “Enter Sandman” on the Tonight Show.
This also comes a few days after a Metallica tribute band had all its equipment stolen in Portland, and the real band caught wind and graciously replaced every piece of gear.
Metallica is currently on tour, supporting its 2016 release, Hardwired to Self Destruct.
