Our first look at the upcoming Pixar film Coco is here and it’s absolutely breathtaking.
The teaser trailer begins to set up the story of a young boy named Miguel who finds himself in the Land of the Dead after attempting to take the guitar of legendary musician Ernesto de la Cruz. And the attention to detail is already apparent in the clips of Miguel watching old video of de la Cruz and in the Land of the Dead.
As the only non-sequel coming out of Pixar for a while, many have been paying close attention to Coco, which initially faced massive backlash following Disney’s attempt to trademark “Día de los Muertos” (or “Day of the Dead”). Since then, Disney and Pixar hired one of its biggest critics to help ensure the film was culturally authentic.
Coco arrives in theaters Nov. 22, 2017.
