We’re taking a break from trying to figure out what’s going on in Greece to bring you three things that buzzed online this past weekend.
Day of daddies
Fathers everywhere were greeted Sunday morning with half-assed handwritten cards by their ambivalent children. Or worse, poor Tom Hanks had to endure a day with his son, Chet Haze, according to this tweet.
But gay fathers, meanwhile, were busy trying to both explain to their children why they have two dads and figure out ways on how not to spend any more time with their kids than they have to. They have places to be! On Gary Janetti’s Twitter account, the comedian tweeted a typical Father’s Day dialogue between two gay dads.
Walked the wire
Daredevil Nik Wallenda mustered up the balls and strength to balance precariously over the roaring Niagara Falls and walk across it on a tightrope. In an attempt to prove how easy it is breach our borders, his stunt was televised live on an ABC special. Gawkers used the hashtag #walkthewire to collectively freak out and wonder what would possess a person to do this. Around 51,000 people tweeted with that hashtag, according to social measuring service Topsy. The wire was about 200 feet above the gushing water so here’s a picture to put it all in perspective.
Sue Simmons signs off
After 32 years of reporting at WNBC-TV in New York, veteran journalist Sue Simmons ended her long run Friday night. The struggling station announced it was dumping the beloved anchor in March. Simmons became notorious for her fantastic on-air screw ups, like asking her co-anchor “the fuck are you doing?” in a clip that quickly went viral. (We never did get an answer of what the fuck he was doing.) A YouTube user captured part of her last newscast as she signed off one final time.
