Zyn memes have proliferated in response to the smoke-free nicotine product popular with young people. On social media, first-time Zynners have posted videos and reviews, profiling the flavors and physical effects of Zyn compared to other nicotine products.
What exactly does Zyn do?
Marketed as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, Zyn floods your system with nicotine. It comes in a round container containing packets that are meant to be placed under the lip where the nicotine can be absorbed into the gum. You are not supposed to chew or swallow them, just sort of let them rest there and circulate in your mouth.
They are still highly addictive, so how beneficial they are overall is hotly debated. While they might be easier on your lungs, the use of oral tobacco products and nicotine products still have a connection to cancer, especially of the mouth. Since Zyn is a relatively new product, the full list of possible side effects isn’t known—but they’re exploding in popularity, so we might soon.

The Zyn shortage
Zyn got so popular that there was a shortage dubbed the “Zynpocalypse,” though in July 2024 Zyn maker Philip Morris promised to expand production. They’re opening a manufacturing facility in Aurora, Colorado, that will begin operations by the end of 2025.
