Last year Facebook invented a new digital holiday, Friends Day. It was created, first, to celebrate the social network’s anniversary, and second, to give you a chance to appreciate your friendships (and their well-liked photos) over the years. Ahead of Facebook’s 13th anniversary, the company brought Friends Day back again, along with some fresh ways to celebrate.
As with the 2016 iteration, Facebook is kicking off Friends Day with a custom video it’s pulled together from your history on the social network. If it includes something you don’t like, you can edit it yourself. The video is initially private, but you can (of course) share it with your friends. If you haven’t gotten a notification about your Friends Day video, you can check it out yourself here.
Already, the interwebs are face-palming these videos, though.

2 min silence for those who are celebrating #friendsday on #Facebook today.

However, others are using the opportunity to genuinely celebrate friendships and diversity.
I can honestly say, I do have Muslims, Jews, Christians, and Atheists as friends (and Buddhists too). Happy #FriendsDay. Wish it is everyday pic.twitter.com/d19ITCGj34

Whatever your thoughts on this “holiday,” it’s not just limited to Facebook itself—this year, the company is also rolling out Friends Day GIFs on its Messenger app, too. These are simply a collection of GIFs that are heartwarming, or show a couple buddies palling around, accessed via the GIFs button at the bottom of the app screen.
Facebook’s actual anniversary is Feb. 4, so you’ve got two whole days to enjoy—or loathe—the occasion.
