Do you ever wish Netflix could just read your mind and pick a movie for you?
Netflix engineers have apparently been experimenting with a new device called MindFlix, which uses a Muse headband to monitor brainwaves. A video from Netflix’s recent Hack Day shows the potential for the device, as it is tried out on the “laziest man in the world.”
MindFlix lets him control Netflix by moving his head to the left and right to scroll. He’s then told to think “play,” which starts content. The device can’t actually read your mind, just brain activity, and the video makes it seem like this is kind of a joke, but anything is possible these days.
A blog from Hack Day states: “While we’re excited about the creativity and thought put into these hacks, they may never become part of the Netflix product, internal infrastructure, or otherwise be used beyond Hack Day. We are posting them here publicly to share the spirit of the event and our culture of innovation.”
Another idea from Hack Day is Netflix for Good, which would allow viewers to donate to causes after watching “socially conscious” titles.
Netflix has yet to return a request by the Daily Dot comment.
