“Flat is a book that has to be made,” creator Vince White has said on the Kickstarter page for his comic. But why? Why does it have to be made? We think this video pretty much sums it up:
That’s right, you’ve been indoctrinated into a belief. Despite the evidence helpfully provided by your own eyeballs, you’ve been convinced that the earth is some sort of ball.
Once the lies have been stripped away, how do you deal with the startling, naked, blinding truth? You can’t just start telling all your friends the earth is flat. They’re not ready. Luckily, White has a solution.
Got ’em! As soon as you’ve tricked your pal into reading what seems like an innocent comic book, they will have to face the shocking, undeniable truth. You’ve been living in the matrix, suckers!
The Kickstarter video also provides some pretty damning evidence that the governments of our planet have been lying to us. Check it out:
Seems pretty flat, doesn’t it?
And after your friends have seen the light, you can all get together to play your new favorite card game—based on the comic.
White even offers a sneak peek at some of the cards, and they’re nothing short of amazing:
It’s hard to say for sure without seeing the rest of the cards, but that seems like some pretty heavy damage to the public psyche. Hopefully someone has some weather “ballons” to take it out.
The strangest thing about all of this—OK, one of a hundred strange things about this—is that the artwork isn’t terrible. It’s certainly not great, but it’s definitely impressive that a guy who believes this:
Can draw this:
The Kickstarter is creeping steadily towards its $4,000 goal, having raised nearly $3,000 already. And to White’s credit, he understands that a lot of people are going to find him (and his project) laughable: Pledge levels include the “Take me to the loony bin pack” or the “Tin Foil Hat pack.” Although that second example could just be a reference to another Kickstarter project he may have had a hand in.
For $5, you can get a .pdf download of the comic, but if you’re a big spender, you can shell out $50 and become an actual character in the book. Fair deal, but the real question is: Are you brave enough to open your mind to the possibilities? Once you’ve read Flat, it can’t be unread, and as White mentions in the video, “There are some very interesting things about the flat Earth conspiracy that will make you say ‘hmm.’”
Hmm.
