Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards appeared on Christiane Amanpour’s CNN show, Amanpour, last night to discuss Paul Ryan’s recent vow for the House to vote to defund Planned Parenthood. In her segment, she reminded viewers that the money allocated to Planned Parenthood by the federal government doesn’t fund abortions, despite the misinformation conservatives continue to perpetuate, and that the funding Ryan wants to cut is for preventive care, like birth control, cancer screenings, and general well-care for women.

Because women are so scared that their access to affordable birth control is about to be taken away under President-elect Donald Trump and a Republican-led Congress, Richards dropped this staggering stat: The demand for IUDs has gone up 900 percent since the election.

Women “are desperately concerned that they might lose their access to healthcare and they know that Planned Parenthood is the place that can provide it,” she said.

Richards also encouraged women to not give up and take part in the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21, which Planned Parenthood is co-sponsoring.
