Gorillas, they’re just like us. Oh sure, they’ll play peekaboo with a toddler for a few minutes, and they’ll show great enthusiasm in doing so. For just a few seconds, it’s the best game ever—for both child and adult.
And then, you realize that the kid is never going to want to stop playing this silly game, and it’s up to you, the adult (or the baby gorilla) to end the proceedings. Because even baby gorillas have their limits on fun.
Watch that theory come to life, live from the Columbus Zoo.
The toddler’s mom, Sherry Chute, told the Columbus Dispatch that her 2-year-old son Isaiah beat his chest when his parents asked him how gorillas act. Then, Isaiah and Kamoli the gorilla, who was born in 2013, locked eyes and began playing despite the glass between them.
“It was a really fun interaction,” Chute told the newspaper. “Isaiah is just like that. Anyone who knows him knows that he’s super playful… It was so fun to see him interact with the animals and know what they were. He was just so truly blissful in that moment, it melted his mommy’s heart.”
The mommy gorilla was not available for comment to talk about the state of her own heart while watching the two play and whether or not she was feeling all the feels.
