Nominated for a whopping seven Grammys, singer-songwriter Victoria Monet nabbed not one, but two awards on Sunday evening at the pre-ceremony for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. The 34-year-old is taking home Best Engineered Album and Best R&B Album for her record Jaguar II, as of this writing, though she’s up for more awards at the ceremony later tonight, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Best R&B Song.

While her pre-ceremony wins did earn her congratulations from many fans and fellow artists, even from her friend Ariana Grande, Monet was the talk of Twitter tonight. Several fans linked out to her 2013 Tweet vowing to win a Grammy Award and even more commended her for her “inspiring story” of staying in the industry for years when she could have given up.

In one viral tweet, X user @TheCindyNoir praised the artist for her “patience and determination,” while in another, they wrote: “Social media got so many of us chasing the fast lane to success, when the fast lane is the exception. That slow and steady lane is usually how it goes. Her success is a testament to what happens when you stay the course.”

Another viral tweet shared a similar sentiment, as user @bilandombasi wrote how “Victoria Monet and Coco Jones are truly the epitome of delayed NOT denied. They have both been in the industry for years, and could’ve easily given up or detoured, but instead, they embraced the challenge and are showing us why delayed gratification is worth it in the end.”

Several fans took the time to point out how the artist was in her 30s, making her win even more of a tremendous feat regarding the many young nominees on the roster tonight. User @alexisfromvegas tweeted about it, writing, “Victoria Monet is 34 y’all for all those people insisting all good things come in your 20s.”

On Sunday evening, Monet graced the red carpet with her partner and two-year-old daughter, Hazel, who was included in the nomination for being on “Hollywood,” which was nominated for “Best Traditional R&B Performance.” She is the youngest person to be nominated for a Grammy, according to People.

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards begins at 7pm CT.

Update 10:10pm CT, Feb. 4, 2024:

Monet has snagged yet another Grammy win for Best New Artist at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night. During her acceptance speech, the artist thanked her mother and her manager with tears in her eyes.

“You can look at the music industry as soil, and it can be looked at as dirty or it can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water,” she said after saying this was a 15-year pursuit. “My roots have been growing underground unseen for so long, and I feel like today I’m sprouting, finally, above ground.”
