Online retailer discovers the worst way to advertise plus-size leggings

Something tells us they’re not too familiar with the plus-size market.

It’s important to know that the car you’re buying is roomy, but the same can’t be said for leggings. That’s why people were so alarmed by an online retailer’s post, which showed a regular-sized model promoting a pair of plus-sized leggings.

The item, posted on the Ali Express website, shows some sort of mermaid marketing strategy. A search on the site reveals that there are a number of plus-size items being advertised similarly, by stuffing a tiny woman into one leg of a pair of pants.

Want a pair of capris that you can share with a friend for a potato sack race or perhaps a trip to the fetish dungeon? This hot pair of summer capris offers “fat lady large size” as well as small, medium, and large.

One item is featured by actually stuffing two models into a single pair of pants in an attempt to get people to… we’re not quite sure. The item is called “fat women capris casual slim leggings new autumn extra big size.”

Reddit commenters had a great time ripping the site’s modeling choices to shreds. One commenter wrote, “Sweet, finally a pair of yoga pants where a girl can fit all four of her legs into it.”

“Maybe they wanted to model for the very niche market of conjoined twins,” wrote another.

We’re going to go ahead and guess that Ali Express doesn’t do a lot of business with plus-size fashionistas. Or perhaps they’re just trying to woo the circus crowd.
