Women frustrated—again—by all of the interruptions in the debates

Two white men interrupting a woman of color? So original.

A hallmark of any political debate is candidates bickering and talking over each other while the moderator desperately tries to instill order. However, last night’s vice presidential debate, which featured two white men (Indiana Gov. Mike Pense and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine) debating with a woman of color moderating (CBS News journalist Elaine Quijano), seemed to feature even more interrupting than usual. For many women, the experience was nothing new but still incredibly frustrating.

It’s important to note that both men were equally guilty of this. “Gentlemen, the people at home cannot understand either one of you when you speak over each other,” Quijano had to interject at one point, and according to CNN, she had to say “gentlemen” or “please” 23 times over the course of the debate. Unfortunately, they seemed too busy bickering to hear her.
