The Apple Valley Animal Shelter in Southern California posted surveillance footage last Thursday of a dog named Ginger escaping from the facility to search for its former owner. The determined German shepherd somehow managed to open three doors.

The escape didn’t last long. Ginger was thankfully was found several days later, roughly three miles from the shelter.

But there is a storybook ending: Apple Valley Animal Shelter noted on Facebook that Ginger has been placed in a “furever” home and that she’ll have a companion to play with.

Let’s hope the new owner has some better locks on the doors.
