We’ve all told little white lies to save face. But when you tell too many in a row, things tend to get complicated—and fast.

Redditor Pabmibib shared a story of fibbing gone wrong to the r/tifu (Today I Fucked Up) subreddit on Monday, and it might just be the most epically convoluted series of lies ever recounted there.

It all started when Pabmibib, who is Korean-Canadian, thought he might seem like a “bad Korean” if he admitted his true ethnicity. You see, Pabmibib is embarrassed that he doesn’t speak Korean so proficiently. So when he encountered a man and his daughter speaking Korean and looking for directions, Pabmibib claimed he was Chinese.

When the dad spoke to him in Mandarin, a language Pabmibib can’t speak a word of, he switched up the lie to say he was Japanese. One problem: the girl spoke Japanese.

No matter: Pabmibib said that in spite of his Japanese heritage, he doesn’t speak Japanese. Just English and Korean! That’s right—when you find yourself in a hole, keep digging deeper!

The drama continued when Pabmibib and the girl discovered they were attending the same university.

But he’s considering an escape plan.

Hmmm. We think you mean seppuku. But maybe a few logic puzzles would help to ease Pabmibib’s mind.

Commenters have urged Pabmibib to look on the bright side.

But, as Pabmibib points out, there’s one problem with being in an IRL K-drama.

Or maybe not?
