While meeting celebrities may sound like a dream, for the cast of Comedy Central’s latest webseries Junketeers, it’s just a way to get a paycheck and maybe a bit of fame for themselves.
Junkets are the cattle-call of the entertainment reporting world, where beleaguered journalists get a few moments with exhausted stars who are plugging their latest project. A recipe for frustration is reimagined as hilarity by following a group of fictional reporters just trying to get through the endless junket cycle.
Creators Josh Horowitz and Ben Lyons are veterans of the junket world, having worked them as employees of MTV and ESPN, respectively. With a premise that could end up feeling too inside-baseball for the entertainment reporting crowd, the series works because viewers are all too familiar with the archetypes on camera, and getting a glimpse at their heightened reality behind the cameras works for laughs.
Plus, star cameos from the likes of Josh Duhamel, Matt Bomer, and Chloe Grace Moretz keep things exciting.
Junketeers is available in full on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel.
