Warpaint

Warpaint is returning this fall with its highly anticipated third album Heads Up. Along with the album announcement, the edgy feminist outift released a new song, well, called “New Song.”

The “New Song” has a pop feel unlike the band’s previous material—truly an unexpected jam and an indicator of where Warpaint is heading. Bandmates take turns singing the rock lullaby surrounded by staccato-heavy guitar drones and moody disco-tinged licks.

Warpaint graced us with a self-titled LP that was dubbed one of 2014’s best albums on Consequence of Sound. The girls pack some serious riffs and excellent jam sessions into their music, so this album will be one for the books.

Tennis

After gaining inspiration from its second eight-month sailing expedition through the Pacific Ocean, Tennis returns with a new hit “Ladies Don’t Play Guitar.” The husband-and-wife duo of Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley bring us a sardonic yet airy track that will make every woman feel like the feminist they deserve to be.

The usual Tennis vibes are on full display, with ’70s jazzy-pop bass and synth notes adding a retro feel and Moore’s melodic voice making every lyric sound angelic.

“I’ve been pushing myself to present a stronger point of view lyrically and to make more assertions about the way I feel constricted or shaped by gender, like an invisible hand that guides the way I work and carry myself, especially within the music industry,” Moore told Stereogum about the track. “This song was my starting point.”

It’s unclear when the duo’s next album will surface, but for now this song will hopefully keep avid Tennis fans afloat.

Beat Connection

Seattle’s Beat Connection shares the new groovy track “For the Record” featuring the same shimmery path as 2015 album Product 3

“For the Record” is a slow motion waltz through a high-class party. The mimic of bass stereo vibrations, symphonic notes, and clanking glasses set the scene as if someone is making a toast.

The electro-pop quartet is set to tour late in August, and the groove will no doubt be infectious.

2Chainz

Atlanta rapper 2Chainz released his third project of the year, Daniel Son; Necklace Don on Thursday night. The 10-track mixtape only features two guest, YFN Lucci and Drake, of course.

The track “Big Amount” features Drake and the two don’t hold back on the bars, contrasting chill instrumentals. Somber piano notes mingle with what sounds like a flute from the popular Nintendo game Zelda in a spell-binding, idiosyncratic display.

Daniel Son; Necklace Don is available in its entirety on SoundCloud. In addition to “Big Amount,” 2Chainz‘s obvious Kanye West reference with the closing song “1 Yeezy Boot” is not to be missed.

Banks

Banks shares the third sample of her forthcoming sophomore album with the release of a sassy track titled “Gemini Feed.” The new track was debuted and performed on Annie Mac’s BBC 1 Radio show on Tuesday.

“Gemini Feed” is synth-lined kiss off to unhealthy relationships, its infectious percussion as much at home in the club or in the car on the way. Anyone who’s been treated badly and watched their own growth suffer at the hands of a partner can relate to Banks’s fiery lyrics.

“It feels surreal having people hear one of my children that I’ve been working on,” Banks said in an interview with Mac. “I just had so much to write about, this album for me is really kind of like a metamorphoses of me coming into my own.”

Whoever made Banks mad and inspired her to record this song, we thank you. The Altar is due out Sept. 30.

Miguel

Miguel shares with us a rhythmic number called “Cadillac” from Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming musical drama series The Get Down.

The song kicks off with Miguel’s signature falsetto leading up to a catchy chorus and finishing with a dreamy, indie-inspired smooth outro. Sounds like Tame Impala left a nice impression on the R&B singer after their “Waves” remix.

Currently only available on Apple Music, this slow burn, sensual jam titillates as Miguel sings “love is in the backseat of my Cadillac,” crooning to his lover that he’ll take them there.
