If you come at Kentucky Fried Chicken, you’d best not miss.
The BBC reports that the finger-lickin’-good fast-food chain is suing three Chinese companies for social-media rumors alleging that KFC‘s poultry is genetically modified and sprouts six wings and eight legs.
KFC is demanding 1.5 million Yuan, or about $241,818, as well as an apology from each company. The American chain says that the Chinese firms spread the gossip on WeChat, a free messaging and calling app similar to WhatsApp.
“Some online marketers have recently been found guilty of changing customer feedback and posting false information about competitors,” the BBC explains.
Those lies, KFC argues, include whispers about chicken with extra appendages.
The Shanghai Xuhui District People’s Court has accepted KFC’s case, and it looks like the companies spreading rumors are going to get fried.
