Longing to travel the world and see great art is something many of us relate to. Thanks to Google we can get the next best experience without having to plunk down some serious cash for a flight, hotel, and museum ticket. Say hello to the company’s Arts & Culture app.
Newly relaunched with a website and app earlier this week, the service offers tons of possibilities to learn about the history of art. See how cat art has evolved since 1083 BCE, take a stroll through all of Salvador Dali’s art exhibits, or stand inside Vienna’s Austrian National Library.
Google also announced a new feature called the Art Recognizer, which will display the history behind a painting when the users holds up their phone up to it. It’s only available in London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery, Sydney’s Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, but Google promises that it’s coming to all museums very soon.
Google has also launched a YouTube channel for Arts & Culture, which we suspect will be home to pretty fascinating stuff in the near future. Keep an eye on it if you savor the riches of cultural history.
