Father John Misty admits to stealing a crystal, but his explanation kinda makes sense

Singer-songwriter Father John Misty finds joy in absurd social media stunts that spotlight his disdain for promotional marketing, the unreasonably fast pace of modern news, and doomed-to-fail Instagram posts.

And so when a crystal went missing from an organic juice bar, he saw a golden opportunity to put on his trollin’ boots.

Last week, Moon Juice in Los Angeles turned to social media and begged for the safe return of its allegedly stolen crystal. “This loving rock has given so much to an entire community,” the owners wrote. “You do not want the energy of a stolen crystal.”

Father John, that ol’ rambling guitar man who makes his Pandora ads into subversive gags, claimed responsibility for the theft via dueling Instagram post. Wrote the artist born Josh Tillman:

While I empathize with your loss I do believe that there is a larger lesson to be gleaned from this experience: namely that material goods, no matter how sacred, WILL come and go from your life. As a practicing Buddhist I can only advise you to try and remember the crystal is only random phenomena…

Shortly after, Misty tweeted screengrabs from fake Huffington Post and People articles that positioned the crystal theft as a trending topic complete with a fabricated Gwyneth Paltrow rumor.
