Every month documentarian Matthew Roberts flies his 4K-enabled drone over the construction site of Apple‘s Campus 2 and posts the stunning video he gathers on Youtube. His latest aerial adventure showcases the progress that has been made thus far on what has been universally dubbed Apple’s “spaceship.”
The June 2016 edition shows there is still a lot of work to be done before Apple’s anticipated early 2017 move-in.
The massive four-level campus will feature over 2.8 million square feet of office space, and 700,000 square feet of solar panels will line the roof for passive cooling and heating systems.
The drone not only flew over the main building, but also took a trip to two connected parking garages that will reportedly hold 11,000 cars. We also get a view over an external auditorium that will seat 1,000 people and have an 80-ton carbon fiber roof on top, and there is also a 100,000-square-foot fitness center and standalone research and development facility.
Apple’s new campus has already faced delays and in 2013 Bloomberg reported that the budget for the new building had gone from $3 billion to $5 billion. It is clear from the drone video that Campus 2 has a long way to go. Still, Apple hasn’t backed off of a 2016 completion date followed by an early 2017 move-in schedule.
