Faraday Future, an electric vehicle start-up and rival to Tesla, revealed its first car today at CES in Las Vegas, and it is a beast.
The FF91 has 1,050 horsepower, will reportedly hit 60 mph in 2.39 seconds, can go 378 miles on one charge. The company says it is the fastest accelerating car in the world. It provided a video showing just how much quicker it is than Tesla’s fastest offering.
The LeEco-funded company has fallen on some hard times recently. Jalopnik reports Faraday Future execs have been leaving in droves, employees stopped getting paid, and LeEco’s funding is slowing.
To make matters worse, the company’s 2015 CES showing was a bit of a bust, and this year wasn’t without its own awkward moment.
LeEco CEO Jia Yueting was brought onto the stage to demonstrate the FF91’s self-parking functionality. He pressed the button to initiate the feature, but nothing happened. It’s hard not to look away, but you can see the slip up at 1:12:25 in the video below.
Buyers interested in the Bugatti of electric vehicles can register on FF.com and place a $5,000 refundable deposit. Deliveries will begin in 2018.
