Bernie Sanders keeps amping up his rhetoric against President-elect Donald Trump.

First, a spokesperson for the independent Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential candidate said Sanders had “nothing polite to say” following Trump’s Electoral College victory over Hillary Clinton.

Later on Wednesday, Sanders released his first full statement, acknowledging that Trump had tapped into the frustrations of everyday Americans while vowing to work with him to improve their plight. However, Sanders said, “To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.”

In other election news, Trump met President Barack Obama for the first time on Thursday, at the Oval Office, where the pair discussed the transition to a Trump administration in January. The private conversation went for longer than expected and was reportedly cordial
