First Facebook decided it wanted to muscle in on Snapchat’s mega popular face filters, and now Periscope is following suit.
In a Medium post, Twitter’s Periscope app announced that election-themed “masks” are coming. The animated filters, which overlay the face of either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump onto your own mug, starting rolling out today.
So what does this mean for Snapchat‘s filter dominance? Not much, to be honest. Periscope’s masks are pretty basic—using Creative Commons images and mouth cut-outs creates a crude, unpolished effect—and the company hasn’t formally announced any masks aside from this presidential spoof.
Still, Twitter is showing that it knows how to pull off the trick, and if the masks prove to be popular, it’s not out of the question that Periscope would roll out its own permanent take on the feature at some point in the near future.
