The world lost a legendary musician and persona in April when Prince died at the age of 57. While people lamented the loss of such a talented performer—and still lament it eight months later—he still had plenty more to give. He apparently was even considering letting people into his Paisley Park home.
A Netflix spokesperson told the Associated Press on Saturday that the streaming giant and Prince were negotiating to produce a reality series but it did not “come to fruition” before he died unexpectedly.
Maya Washington, a photographer and a friend of Prince, recently told GQ that he talked to her about the show but that he didn’t want to star in the series.
“He was supposed to do something with Netflix, a reality show on Paisley Park,” Washington said. “He’s, ‘Why don’t you help me?’ I’m, ‘I’d love to, but you’d have to be in it.’ And he’s, ‘No, no, no, I’m not in it.’ I’m, ‘Why not? You’re so funny—why don’t you want anyone to see your sense of humor?’ And he would shut it down: ‘Maya, I can’t be funny. I have to save the world.’”
Not since the script for a never-produced Simpsons episode starring Prince was released shortly after his death have we been so tantalized about what might have been for him.
