In a blog published Thursday, June 19, Twitter announced that it has acquired SnappyTV, a platform that allows users to edit, share, and archive live video and TV programing within the cloud.  SnappyTV  enables organizations to  create, distribute and measure real-time promotional messaging delivered via social media channels. This, according to SnappyTV,  allows companies to grow their audience “exponentially” by being able to quickly share pop culture moments as they happen.

Twitter’s acquisition of SnappyTV marks the social media giant’s latest push toward becoming more TV-friendly, having acquired Mesagraph, a French startup, and SecondSync, a U.K. startup, both of which track social TV analytics.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the SnappyTV team to Twitter. As Twitter has grown as the companion to live events and broadcast media, SnappyTV will help partners and brands bring the best videos into the conversation, when it matters most.”

Twitter also announced that SnappyTV will maintain its ability to post high-quality videos to other platforms as it integrates the platform into its system. SnappyTV, founded in 2010 and based in San Francisco, posted its own blog post announcing the sale.

“With Twitter we will continue our commitment to maintaining an open platform for social broadcasting of live events, across a variety of digital platforms. Joining Twitter will allow us to provide an even better product and bring the platform to more content owners and event organizers throughout the world. We will be able to further our goal of empowering people to share the world’s best moments.”
