Microsoft and Starbucks partner up for Outlook email add-in

Starbucks gift cards, the go-to “I have no clue what you might want” present, can now be gifted through a simple email. Microsoft announced that its Outlook email application will be getting Starbucks add-ins to allow users to send gift-cards as well as schedule meetings at local Starbucks coffeehouses.

Microsoft says the add-ins will help replace the personal connection between people that has been lost with the trend of hosting remote meetings. The new feature is designed to help people connect with their clients, fellow employees, or study groups.

The process is pretty simple: Create an Outlook account if you don’t already have one, download the Starbucks add-in, then connect to your Starbucks account. You will then be able to use a side panel to give coffee money or schedule meetings.

The partnership between the two companies was announced at Microsoft’s Build developer conference, an example of how developers can make content for Microsoft’s platforms. The add-ins are available for Outlook 2013 and 2016 on Windows as well as Outlook Online. For a limited time those who send Starbucks eGift cards are eligible to receive a $5 eGift card in return.
