In one of the most amazing videos of his Papacy so far, Pope Francis was filmed stopping his official car in the middle of a highway to bless a disabled girl.

During a trip by Pope Francis to Southern Italy on Saturday, the leader of the Catholic Church saw a banner that read ‘Please Pope stop here to see an angel who has been waiting for you,’ and ‘Please come and bless little Roberta.’

The banner was being held by the disabled girl’s family, who had gathered near their house at the road, merely hoping to see the Pope drive past, and praying that he would stop. The Catholic News Agency reports that when Pope Francis saw the banners, he asked his car to stop to get out and immediately reached out and kissed the disabled woman on the stretcher as a blessing.

The young woman, called Roberta, couldn’t travel far from her house as she is required to spend most of the day with a machine to help her breathe. The family posted a thank-you note on Facebook to their Holy Father.

“I still can’t believe it, thank you Holy Father…I thank the Pope for having given us a moment of great joy,” Roberta’s sister, Pamela, wrote.

“Today we can say that Christ stopped in Sibari in the vestments of Pope Francis,” added Ivan Vania, a family friend who helped make the posters.

“It was very emotional to see how Pope Francis greeted Roberta” Vania continued, “here are gestures in life that are worth more than speeches, much more than you would think…Pope Francis is unique.”
