There’s a better, faster, ridiculously easy way to peel an egg

Why haven’t we heard of this before?

No one will ever blame you for avoiding hardboiled eggs like the plague—peeling them is that infuriating. The dream of making a clean crack and sliding the shell off in two perfect halves is shattered by the reality of digging your nails under a thousand crumbled shell bits that refuse to come off.

I’ve also found it impossible to peel a hardboiled egg without ripping off at least a third of the egg white with it, leaving me with a sad, pock-marked orb that’s fine enough for chopping into egg salad, but too broken and sad to eat for lunch.

I’ve tried baking soda, vinegar, salt, hot water, cold water, various egg temperatures and freshnesses, all to no obvious difference in outcome. Is there a new hack for what ails me?

Ha ha, of course there is! Thank you, Internet.

It’s so stupidly easy, it hurts. You’ll be mad you never knew it.

It’s water.

Eggpeel.com asserts that by placing a hardboiled egg in a glass of water and vigorously shaking the glass, the shell will crumble and your beautiful egg will emerge unscathed. It is the only thing featured on their website, so you know they’re serious.

The video above is uploaded by user MicahMedia. Of the four videos he has uploaded, three are about peeling eggs. (The last one demonstrates the ability to peel up to six eggs at a time in this fashion. It’s a sight to behold.)

Could we finally have a solution? Will the world be free of craggy egg whites with bits of shell attached? One can only hope 91.78 percent of eggpeel.com visitors can’t be wrong… though the banner image of an egg clearly missing some of its white on the Eggpeel homepage leads me to think the ultimate hack is still out there.

Or you could just eat the shell and be done with this remorse.
