Here at the Daily Dot, we have an unofficial tradition of sharing GIF images with each other every morning. Now we’re looping you into the circle. In the Morning GIF, we feature a popular—or just plain cool—GIF we found on Reddit, Canvas, or elsewhere on the Internet.
Have you ever wondered what the Mona Lisa looks like without the woman sitting there? Or what The Scream looks like without the agonized figure?
In a series called “Selected,” 23-year-old artist Mike Guppy has done just that.
The English artist has removed the iconic figures from Edvard Munch’s The Scream and Rene Magritte’s The Son of Man and replaced them with animated marching ants. Guppy’s GIF animation of The Son of Man was picked up on Tumblr, where it has collected 99 notes to date.
“The web is a perfect example of how technology transforms society, and we’re right amidst it. This is where the main influence for my work stems from, examining how we interact with the web and how it might change,” Guppy, a 2011 graduate from the Camberwell College of Arts, told the English magazine It’s Nice That in an interview.
